Travel

All motorized and non-motorized vehicles will be able to move around in Paris during the Games. Certain traffic restrictions will be activated within the security perimeters deployed around competition venues and opening ceremony.

To ensure the security and fluidity of these zones, the Paris Police Prefecture has set up a list of authorized modes of transport that can move around within these security perimeters. You will not be authorized to pass through them if your point of departure or arrival is not located within these perimeters when they are activated.

To enter competition venue red perimeters and/or the opening ceremony gray (SILT) perimeters, you will need to apply for a Games Pass on the Prefecture de Police platform.

Olympic traffic lanes will be solely reserved for: Games organizers, emergency and security vehicles, public transport, cabs, vehicles for disabled visitors and spectators.

Olympic traffic lanes on freeways and the boulevard périphérique (ring road) will be activated from Monday July 15th as follows:

- A1 between Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Porte de la Chapelle until September 11th
- A4 between Collégien and Porte de Bercy until August 13th, then from August 30th to September 8th
- A12 between Rocquencourt and Montigny le Bretonneux until August 13th, then from August 27th to September 8th
- A13 between Porte Maillot and Rocquencourt until August 13th, then from August 27th to September 8th.
- Boulevard périphérique, from Porte de Vanves to Porte de Bercy, passing northwards until August 13th, then from August 22th to September 11th
- Boulevard Circulaire (La Défense) until August 13th, then from August 22nd to September 11th.

Parisian Olympic lanes may be activated from July 1st:

These lanes include only one lane on the main road. The other lanes remain open to all motorized vehicles.

Bridge access restrictions are planned.

As the ceremony takes place on the Seine, several bridges will be progressively closed to traffic (vehicles and pedestrians) 24 hours a day, starting July 8th up until July 26th.

To allow access to the left and right banks of the river during this time, four bridges will remain open:

- pont des Invalides (7th)
- passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor - pedestrian access (Paris Centre)
- pont Notre-Dame and Petit-Pont Cardinal-Lustiger (central Paris)
- pont de Sully (5th arrondissement)

For motorized traffic outside Paris (excluding public transport), please consult this link on Olympic and Paralympic traffic lanes.

Depending on the length of your employees' journeys, we recommend alternative modes of transport: walking, cycling or car-pooling. They can also combine several means of transport in one trip: switch from Vélib' to the bus or from the metro to walking.

From spring onward, the Île-de-France mobilité application 's route calculator will take the Games' impact on public transport into account, including station closures, to suggest alternative routes to your employees.

On this page, you'll find tips for adapting your teams' working conditions.

Cabs and ride-hailing services (RHS) are authorized move around within the blue and red perimeters around Olympic venues but solely to pick up or drop off passengers identified as authorized persons.

On the other hand, they are not authorized to cross them if their departure or destination point is not located in these zones.

For the Opening Ceremony, rules are stricter. Please refer to the authorized modes of transport within the vicinity of the Ceremony.

Cab and RHS drivers can request exemptions via the Paris Police Prefecture's Pass Jeux platform.

Navigation restrictions on the Seine will be applied from time to time, and in particular from July 20th onward ahead of the Olympic Games opening ceremony, and during the whitewater swimming events.

Exemptions/Games Pass

Games Passes are dispensations issued by the Paris Police Prefecture, allowing people to move around within the Games security perimeters Games.

These nominative, free-of-charge Games Passes cover three key events in specific geographical areas: the Opening Ceremony (July 18th-26th), the Olympic Games (July 26th-August 11th) and the Paralympic Games (August 28th-September 9th). Only the red perimeters of the competition venues and the grey perimeters (SILT) of the ceremony require a Games Pass.

The system applies differently depending on mode of transport.

You can apply for a Games Pass for each of two distinct periods: the Opening Ceremony (July 18th - July 26th) and/or the entire Games period (July 26th - September 9th)(opening soon).

For each of these time periods, you must then make a request for your staff (permanent and/or temporary workers, pedestrians, drivers and passengers) and in parallel another request for your vehicle(s).

Applications are online, on the police prefecture's "Pass Jeux" digital platform.

Don't forget to plan ahead!

WARNING: the Pass will not be granted if you simply wish to cross a perimeter.

Scams

Fraudulent individuals and/or companies are likely to collect payments in return for Paris 2024 stamped services or by using the name of an official Paris 2024 partner. French catering companies are particularly targeted. We recommend that you exercise the utmost caution.

Waste management

Waste collection could be impacted during road race events. Further information will be made available shortly.

In the run-up to the Games, the City of Paris will also be pursuing its awareness-raising campaigns aimed reducing waste as well as recycling.
Paris will also mobilize over 5,500 refuse collectors and service providers.

In the run-up to the Games, operations will be carried out to clean up public spaces and urban furniture in addition to the 30,000 bins in public spaces.

Deliveries

Deliveries by motorized vehicles may be affected by changes to traffic regulations introduced by the Paris Police Prefecture, with the deployment of red security perimeters around competition sites and SILT zones around the opening ceremony.

To find out about delivery options available to your business sector, please consult the table detailing the persons authorized to move around and deliver in the restricted zones, and the table of authorized modes of transport within the vicinity of the ceremony.

You can apply for a Games Pass on the Paris Police Prefecture's digital "Pass Jeux" platform.

Within the red perimeters, the Paris Police Prefecture will offer delivery time slots to professionals authorized to move around these areas (information to follow).

Deliveries on foot, by bicycle or cargo bike will have very little impact, as non-motorized vehicles will be free to move around anywhere in Paris, particularly in the red and blue perimeter zones set up around the competition sites.

Business opportunities

Retailers in Paris and neighboring towns may have been authorized to remain open on Sundays from June 15th to September 30th, 2024. Subject to employees wishes.

A decree has been issued by the Paris Police Prefecture for the IDF - Paris region to implement this exemptions from Sunday rest for seven business sectors: food retailing, sports and leisure goods, multi-store outlets, bicycles and motorcycles, department stores, clothing stores and bookshops/stationery.

This measure covers all Parisian arrondissements and is valid throughout the previously mentioned time period. The administrative procedure must be carried out at least 5 weeks before the requested time-frame starts.

Security perimeters set up by the Paris Police Prefecture may have an influence on the presence of commercial events in public areas. However, the conditions for granting authorization remain the same as for normal periods:

The City of Paris regulates the number of sites where public commercial activities are possible. In addition, a request to set up stall in the public domain must be made at least 2 months before the event or sale:

Parking

Some parking restrictions may apply during red perimeter and SILT events as well as during road race events.

Access to private or public parking lots will be maintained within the red perimeters of the venues, provided you have acquired a Games Pass for motorized vehicles. Please note, however, that if your private or public parking lot is located on the route of a road race, it will not be accessible during the race while the security perimeter is activated.

Terraces

The opening of terraces and stalls will be prohibited on certain roads in the vicinity of Olympic and Paralympic venues, the opening ceremony and during road races.

Terraces are authorized from April 1st to October 31st, but their installation is subject to authorization, which shopkeepers must apply for prior to installation via an authorization request available on this link.

During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, from July 1st to September 8th, opening hours for authorized summer terraces are extended to midnight.

Outside this period (April 1st to June 30th and September 9th to October 31st), summer terraces are open until 10pm.

Restrictions will soon be confirmed by the Paris Police Prefecture concerning the opening of terraces on certain routes and during certain events.

All about summer terraces

Work and building sites

Outside the safety perimeters, mainly around competition venues and along the Seine, building sites continue under normal conditions in accordance with the applicable regulations. However, traffic conditions in Paris may be affected by safety perimeters around Olympic and Paralympic venues, and by the organization of road races.

Within the safety perimeters :

-Between March 15th, 2024 and June 15th, 2024:

Sanctuary around venues (Olympic Games, railway stations, sensitive sites, Olympic lanes )

No authorization to start new works in yellow zones, and existing sites must be withdrawn by June 15th, 2024 .

All worksites must either be completed and the roadways restored to their original state, or be away and made safe by June 15th.

- Between June 15th and September 15th, 2024:

Welcoming visitors to the Games

No authorization for the start of new works throughout Paris and withdrawal of existing sites by July 15th, 2024.

All construction sites must either be completed and roadways restored to their original state, or be put away and made safe by July 15th.

To ensure the smooth preparation and staging of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, for reasons of public safety, traffic and travel, the City of Paris will have to restrict roadworks in Paris between March 15th and September 15th, 2024. Restrictions do not apply to emergency safety work, customer connection work or work related to the hosting of the Games.
