On July 26, 2024, the eyes of the world will be on Paris for the Olympic Games! A historic fortnight for the City of Light, which will then host the Paralympic Games from August 28th to September 8th. Paris revisits its heritage, a century after the Games last illuminated the city.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist, showcased the torch for the Paris 2024 Games yesterday during a walk along the Seine, accompanied by a host of athletes and public figures.

Where will the Olympic and Paralympic Games events happen in Paris?

The Olympic Games will kick off on the Seine on July 26, 2024: nearly 10,500 athletes from 206 delegations will parade between the Austerlitz and Iéna bridges on the Seine in front of several hundred thousand people.
Then the Games begin! Invalides, Grand Palais and Grand Palais Éphémère, Champ de Mars, Concorde, Pont d'Iéna, Arena Bercy… not forgetting the new Arena at Porte de la Chapelle: there'll be plenty to see at the competition venues all over Paris.
The Paralympic Games will feature remarkable venues, including an opening ceremony at the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde. The festivities begin on August 28, 2024.

The public can cheer on athletes at no cost in events like the marathon, road cycling, walking, and triathlon. Additionally, spectators will have complimentary access to the upper Seine quays during the Games' opening ceremony.

Over the summer of 2024, Parisians and visitors from all over the world will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the Games outside the competition venues thanks to the "Off des Jeux". Around twenty venues in the capital will host free festivities: broadcasts of the events, sporting and cultural events, convivial dining areas, meetings with medal winners allowing everyone to experience the Games everywhere in Paris, with family or friends…
The "Marathon pour tous": two new races
For the first time in Olympic history, two races will occur at night on August 10, 2024: a 42.195 km marathon, following the Olympic marathon route, and a 10 km race through the heart of Paris. Entry numbers are complimentary. Both seasoned athletes and beginner runners alike will find these events accommodating.

Swimming in the Seine, a dream come true

During the Paris 2024 Games, athletes will have the honor of initiating river swimming events, with Olympic competitions commencing at the Alexandre III bridge. These events will include open-water swimming, para-triathlon, and triathlon contests. This resurgence is set to open avenues for aquatic leisure pursuits, with three designated sites becoming available for swimming starting in 2025.

Bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways, green areas, and the Arena are all part of the ongoing redevelopment at Porte de la Chapelle in the 18th arrondissement, set to continue through 2024. The Arena will host several Olympic and Paralympic events for the Paris 2024 Games. Two local sports halls for local residents are also being built, along with a pedestrian forecourt. After the Games, the Arena will host sporting competitions, concerts and Paris Basket Ball as its resident club.

During events such as road races, Paris is spearheading innovations like Olympic venue certifications, and economic player endorsements to ensure the Paris 2024 Games mean the end of single-use plastic in the city.

Waiting for 2024: major sporting events to come

Rugby Village World Cup 2023 place la Concorde
The Paris Archery World Cup, as the fourth stage of the international circuit, gathers the world's elite archers. After qualifying and elimination stages at the Stade Charléty, the Esplanade des Invalides will host the finals on the weekend of August 19th and 20th, 2023. For two days, spectators and visitors will also be able to take advantage of an entertainment village with sporting initiations, exhibitors and catering!
From September 8th to October 28th, Paris will pulsate with the energy of the Rugby World Cup 2023. A village devoted to rugby will be established at Place de la Concorde, featuring match broadcasts, rugby tutorials, and more. This eco-friendly village will be open to everyone.
The women's sporting event returns from September 8th to 10th, featuring two races of 7 and 10 kilometers, as well as a 7-kilometer walk.
The Wheelchair Rugby World Cup takes place from October 16th to 22th at the Halle Carpentier (13th arrondissement), with the final at the Accor Arena. Originating in Canada in 1977, this Paralympic sport combines elements of basketball, field hockey, and American football.
The Accor Arena (12th arrondissement) welcomes France's top gymnasts on September 16th and 17th.
On October 2nd and 3rd, the elite of beach volleyball will convene in Paris for the second edition of the "Beach Pro Tour" in France. This unprecedented competition is set to take place a year before the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A variety of activities will be on offer in the stadium and village. A DJ set will enliven the weekend's night sessions and matches, and the icing on the cake is that the event takes place in the iconic Roland-Garros stadium!
From October 28th to November 5th, the world's best tennis players will be out to shine at the last Master 1000 of the year.
The Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, set for April 7, 2024, marks the final marathon in the capital before the Olympic event. It presents a chance to challenge your endurance across the legendary 42.195 km distance!
