More comfortable, improved accessibility, energy-efficient buildings… Five facilities, well known to Parisian sports fans, have been given a new lease of life in the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Improving conditions for the general public and athletes, as well as accessibility, is the aim of renovation work undertaken at five sporting venues in the build up to the Paris 2024 Games. These improvements are necessary to welcome both athletes and visitors during this prestigious event.
These development projects, made possible by the signing of an agreement between Paris 2024, SOLIDEO (Société de livraison des ouvrages olympiques) and the City of Paris - the contracting authority - focus on accessibility, employment and territorial development, carbon impact and environmental ambitions.
With the exception of the Vallerey and Dauvin swimming pools, the three other facilities remained open to the public during the renovations.
Recycling was highly prioritised during the construction work, with 90% of waste (plastic, wood, rubble, etc.) being reused.

A brand-new roof for the Georges-Vallerey swimming pool (20e)

The pool will host swimming, marathon swimming and triathlon (swimming) training during the 2024 Olympic Games.
It's the doyenne of the five venues: the Georges-Vallerey pool (20th arrondissement) was built for the 1924 Games! Johnny Weissmuller made history there by winning four Olympic medals, three of them gold. In 2024, it will be a swimmers training venue. In the meantime, the pool will be undergoing a facelift, this includes the refurbishment of its famous sunroof and replacement of its glass roof, a totally reconfigured reception area, as well as numerous technical improvements (modernization of the air treatment unit, water treatment, heating, improved accessibility for the disabled, etc.).
The scope of the project covers the entire building:

Improving reception of the general public and athletes:

  • Redevelopment of the site's reception area, making it more accessible and making it safer;
  • Improved acoustics by lowering the water renewal system in the basin's downspouts;
  • Creation of new restrooms, accessible to the general public on the same floor as the stands
  • Improved user access inside the facility (vertical accessibility, guidance, signage for athletes, and renovation of the current elevator).

Improve the pool's technical facilities

  • Modernization of air conditioning and the hall / pool ventilation distribution system;

To avoid further waste during the refurbishment, old materials were re-used.

Accessibility, including modification of the access ramps on the two avenues adjacent to the center, making the corridors, stands and changing rooms accessible, and installing three new elevators were a priority. The building will be much more energy-efficient, with low-energy lighting and renovation of all exterior joinery.
Spectators and athletes will also benefit from improved acoustics thanks to the installation of suspended speakers.
The project involves :

Improving site accessibility

  • Addition of an elevator shaft, reallocation of premises, modification of floor levels;
  • Renovation of external surroundings, with modifications to ramps on the two avenues bordering the center and the installation of plants;
