The "Transformations Olympiques" program has been part of an ongoing consultation process since Paris' bid for the 2024 Games
In an Olympic and Paralympic Games first, the City of Paris had already started putting a roadmap together before it was even chosen to host the 2024 Games. It came up with 43 measures designed to accelerate and amplify public policies and mobilize the region's know-how.
These measures include new ways of practicing sport, a young talents support scheme, an educational program in schools, the development of psychomotor education in nurseries, initiatives including vulnerable groups at major sporting events, studying the Seine's water for health risks, a charter for eco-friendly events, a cooperation agreement with Seine-Saint-Denis, etc.

10,000 Parisians designed the "Transformations Olympique" project

This legacy program has been designed in consort with civil society, with over 60 meetings and 8 major events hosted between March and December 2018.
1,200 ideas and projects were collected by the city, then assessed and grouped together to produce the 20 major Games legacy objectives. This collaborative work will continue until all projects are brought to fruition.
Paris will draw on the collective imagination of local residents, associations and economic players. To achieve this, it will be necessary to conduct thematic workshops with partners at regular intervals, perpetuating the consultation process initiated during the development phase and calling on the City's various participatory democracy bodies.

How would you assess the situation 3 years after the launch of Transformations Olympiques?

Since 2019 and its launch, this collaborative work has continued with the support of the Paris 2024 Endowment Fund and all involved players: City employees, residents, associations, economic players. With less than a year to go before the launch of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the City of Paris has published a report of an initial assessment of its actions.

Supporting sports

To involve as many Parisians as possible, participation will take place both on a digital platform and in designated locations. This is where the Olympic project can be brought to life, where people can be kept informed of progress, and where they can work together to build projects that will benefit Paris.
Its vocation will also be to welcome local residents affected by changes and urban developments and ensure optimum management of the event's impact. It will also become the home of sports players and volunteers committed to major sporting events in the capital. Finally, it will be a space for reflection as well as social and sporting innovation.

A large-scale urban innovation laboratory

The Games represent a major opportunity to consolidate Paris' position as Europe's leading innovation hub. In the spirit of affirming this trajectory, the implementation of all of our 20 objectives will be supported by a major experimental program bringing together startups, major companies and social innovators.
The City will launch an international call for innovations to enable this entire ecosystem to test their prototypes and services in real-life situations in Paris. The city's innovation network's expertise will be a major asset in realizing this ambition of a large-scale laboratory for urban innovation.

A continuous evaluation process

The "Transformations Olympiques" program sets out a strategic framework that will enable the integration of projects and initiatives contributing to this strategy between now and 2024, and beyond. This flexibility will enable the program to be adapted, amended and improved in line with the ongoing the projects and their effects. To this end, the city will adopt an objective and pragmatic evaluation method, aimed at guaranteeing the greatest possible efficiency in the undertaking of its actions.
This approach will be systematic and ongoing - before, during and after - in order to identify initiatives with proven effectiveness, verify the conditions of implementation and the potential for large-scale deployment, assess the impact of undertaken actions and finally make the appropriate adjustments to ensure that objectives are met.
Precise indicators will be put in place to assess the progress of projects and their impact. To guarantee these objectives, a scientific committee will be set up, bringing together academics, researchers, experts, recognized players from civil society, city departments and partners.

From Euro 2016 to the Games: a responsible and certified organization

Since the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, the city has looked to obtain an ISO 2012.1 certification. This international standard (launched during the London 2012 Games) has enabled us to create a responsible management system within local authorities, guaranteeing conditions conducive to the proper consideration of sustainable development issues in the events business.
This continuous improvement approach involves a participatory process with stakeholders, and concrete objectives and actions in terms of the sustainability and impact of events hosted in Paris. With the Paris 2024 Games just five years away, the City of Paris is very proud to have its ISO 2012.1 certificate renewed for 3 years.
