From the set-up phase up until kick-off, find out everything you need to know about the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony that will be held on the banks of the Seine on July 26th!

When and where will the assembly phases for the Olympic Games opening ceremony begin?

The Olympic Games opening ceremony set-ups will take place on both the upper and lower quays of the Seine.

Set-ups on the lower quays (on the banks of the Seine) are managed by Paris 2024 and began on June 17th (with a partial closure of the Pont Alexandre III). The lower quays will then be progressively occupied, with partial closures, until they are completely closed 24 hours a day (from July 15th-18th for the majority of them) and until the day after (July 27th) the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony (July 26th).
An access road for emergency and security services will be maintained.

The assembly on the upper platform adjacent to the road will be overseen by the City of Paris, commencing on June 24th, it will occupy several lanes (not impacting road traffic, but sometimes generating pedestrian or cyclist bypasses). From July 15th, many areas will be completely closed to traffic.

How can I plan my daily routine and travel within the grey perimeter (SILT) in the run-up to and on Olympic Games opening ceremony day?

Eight days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and on the day of the opening ceremony (Friday, July 26th), a SILT (internal security and anti-terrorism) protection perimeter will be set up by the Police Prefecture on both banks of the Seine from east to west, including the first row of buildings along the river near the parade.
Access to this perimeter will be more limited on the day of the Opening Ceremony (from 1pm). We therefore advise you to take a close look at these access conditions, depending on the day, your itinerary and your mode of travel.

Ahead of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony (D-8): from Thursday, July 18th to Friday, July 26th, 2024 at 1 p.m.

Traveling by foot, bicycle or motorized vehicle will be possible, but very restricted eight days before the opening ceremony (between Thursday, July 18th and Friday, July 26th, 1pm, at which time access will be restricted further).

For this reason, we recommend that you anticipate travel and activities in advance (if you can, work from home, plan your commute, food shopping, meal deliveries (for at least 2 days), care services, deliveries, etc.). We recommend postponing any exceptional activities (works, removals, wedding ceremonies, christenings, etc.).

To gain access to the gray perimeter (SILT), shakedowns and baggage searches are required. You'll also need a Games Pass, regardless of means of travel (on foot, by bike or by car). Please note that motorized transport is only authorized under certain conditions (if you have private parking, a mobility inclusion card, etc.).

Each time you enter the gray perimeter (SILT), you'll need to show your Games Pass (a QR Code) and identification to the police. To obtain this digital pass, you must register on the dedicated platform set up by the Police Prefecture (Pass Jeux). For people without access to online services, a dedicated system will be put up in every arrondissement town hall. The Pass Jeux can be presented on a smartphone or printed out. It only applies to people aged 13 and over.

From July 18th, many areas will be completely closed to traffic.

Shops, restaurants and hotels will remain open on the upper quays, with a few exceptions. On the lower quays and islands (Cité and Saint-Louis), shops, restaurants and hotels will remain open.

How can I plan my daily routine and travel within the red perimeter in the run-up to and on Olympic Games opening ceremony day?

A red perimeter that prohibits motorized traffic will be established by the Préfecture de Police eight days prior to and on the day of the Olympic Games' opening ceremony. Access and movement on foot/cycle will be possible within this perimeter without restrictions.

Travel by motorized vehicle will be very restricted eight days before and during the Opening Ceremony (between Thursday, July 18th and Friday, July 26th included). By way of exception, people with a legitimate reason for accessing the perimeter (without the need for a Games Pass) will be allowed access by vehicle. Access and movement on foot/by bike will be possible and unrestricted within this perimeter.

It is advisable to plan your daily activities in advance as much as possible, such as working from home, preparing for your commute, grocery shopping, arranging meal deliveries and home assistance, as well as scheduling various types of deliveries. Additionally, consider delaying any out-of-the-ordinary tasks or events, like work projects or removals.

If you are using a motorized vehicle, you must present proof of identity to police each time you enter the perimeter. No Game Pass (QR Code) is required to enter the red perimeter during the opening ceremony.

Access and movement by foot/cycle will be possible within this perimeter. However, access by 2 or 4-wheel motorized vehicles will be restricted. Individuals with an exemption and a legitimate reason can access the perimeter by vehicle, even without a Games Pass.

Therefore, we advise you to plan your daily routines and any special activities (such as commuting, arranging deliveries, waste collection, and construction) well in advance whenever possible.

For shopkeepers and restaurateurs, we also advise you to read all the regulations that apply to you (ambush marketing, terrace extensions, etc.) here.

Each time you enter the perimeter, you'll need to show proof of identity to the police. No Games Pass (QR Code) is required to enter the red perimeter for the opening ceremony.

The red perimeter only applies to motorized vehicles. I will be able to access the red perimeter on foot, by bike (including cargo bikes) without needing to show proof, several days before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games and on D-day. Self-service bicycles (Vélib', Lime, etc.) will remain available throughout this period. Bicycle parking zones within the red perimeter remain accessible. For cargo bikes, transit zones are currently being defined and will be announced at a later date.

Within the red perimeter, motorized vehicles with two or four wheels are banned, except for authorized purposes such as residents, shopkeepers, delivery staff, emergencies, and similar cases, upon verification by the police at designated entry points. There is no requirement to present a Games Pass for this process.

In addition to the Tuileries, Concorde and Champs-Elysées Clémenceau stations, which will remain closed for the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (due to their location within the competition venues), bus traffic will be diverted outside the red perimeter. RATP is currently working with the Paris Police Prefecture to determine whether essential bus lines should be maintained.
