The Olympic flag, a powerful emblem of Paris 2024, has been in Paris since Monday, August 9. This marks the beginning of a new approach to reinventing the Games: one that is local, enjoyable, inclusive, and significant.
On Monday August 9, the French Olympic delegation returned from the Tokyo Olympic Games at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport at 2.40pm. Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, waved the Olympic flag as she stepped off the plane, accompanied by Brigitte Henriques, President of the CNOSF, Roxana Maracineanu, Sports Minister, and the last medalists from the French delegation. They were welcomed by Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024.

Under a clear Parisian sky, the Olympic flag and its delegation made their first stopover at Hôtel de Ville. At 5 p.m., Anne Hidalgo, joined by Tony Estanguet, the two French basketball teams and a number of Secours Populaire children, hoisted the flag onto a mast to celebrate the new Olympiad. Before heading off to Live des Jeux at the Trocadéro, a number of players, including Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum and Sandrine Gruda, had a few words to say about the Paris Games in three years' time. "It's becoming more and more real. We're leaving a competition, we saw the torch being passed from Tokyo to Paris, and I think that's beautiful. It's materialized by this flag, and we know it's going to be a great party. We're going to set Paris on fire!" enthused the captain of the French women's basketball team, a few minutes before joining the hundreds of fans under the Eiffel Tower.
