Dans cette nouvelle performance du Cycle de Rūmia, Orama Nigou incarne l’entité divine Rūmia, mère fondatrice du monde rendu à son état fondamental dans la nuit polynésienne, Pō. Elle revisite pour ce faire la figure du deuilleur rituel polynésien dont elle déconstruit la cape traditionnelle en plumes de pigeon royal en une fine étole de plumes de coq rouges et de canard vertes, fil conducteur d’une réflexion sur la perte des traditions autant que sur l’extinction des espèces plumes de coq et de canard remplaçant celles du pigeon royal dont ne subsistent que quelques spécimens sur un atoll. Un masque vient parachever la parure de ce dispositif performatif. La performance, réitérée trois fois pendant la nuit, laissera la place à une installation de la cape et du masque portés par l’artiste pour matérialiser l’acte vécu, telle la trace mémorielle d’une métamorphose.
Orama Nigou est artiste chercheuse, née en 1998 sur l'île de Raiatea, en Polynésie française. Elle met en œuvre la forte symbolique culturelle de la plume pour interroger les relations de la matière. L’artiste conçoit objets textiles, installations et performances lui permettant d'incarner la matière métaphysique, essence de toute création.

In this new performance of the Rumia Cycle, Orama Nigou embodies
the divine entity Rumia, founding mother of the world returned to its
fundamental state in the Polynesian night, Po. To do this, she revisits the
figure of the Polynesian ritual mourner, whose traditional cape of royal pigeon
feathers she deconstructs into a fine stole of red rooster and green duck
feathers, a common thread in a reflection on the loss of traditions as much as
on the extinction of rooster and duck feather species replacing those of the
royal pigeon, of which only a few specimens remain on an atoll. A mask
completes the adornment of this performative device. The performance, repeated
three times during the night, will give way to an installation of the cape and
mask worn by the artist to materialize the act experienced, like the memorial
trace of a metamorphosis.
Orama Nigou is an artist-researcher, born in 1998 on the island
